Zen Widener is a multi-band, stereo image enhancer. It works by subtracting center content from a the signal for each band. You can set the width and center point, independently, for each frequency band, and optionally invert the phase.
Each adjustable frequency band has separate controls for the center-point in the stereo field it works from, the amount of reduction of center content, overall gain and left and right phase.
Where it really shines:
- Adding subtle width to the high end of a mix
- Widening and brightening backing vocals to be more around the rest of the tune than in it
- Enhancing the ambience provided by reverbs
- Making panned, doubled guitar tracks simply insanely wide
- Correcting and enhancing the stereo spread from drum overheads to match the pan-position of spot mics
